DESCRIPTION:You can come to the hike\, the potluck or both.\nMODERATE LEVEL HIKE    \n\nDistance (Roundtrip): 0.6 miles / 1.0 km\n\n\nAt only 0.3 miles (0.5 km) each way\, the Crouching Lion Trail is\, without a doubt\, one of the best sunrise hikes on Oʻahu! \nCrouching Lion Trailhead Parking\nParking for the Crouching Lion Trailhead is located in a small dirt lot on the right-hand side of Kamehameha Highway\, just before Kahana Bay Beach Park when coming from Kāneʻohe\, or on the left after the beach park when coming from the North Shore. \nCrouching Lion Trailhead is a high-crime area for petty theft. Never leave visible bags or anything valuable in your car. \n\n\n\nHiking the Crouching Lion Trail\nTo get to the Crouching Lion Trailhead\, walk in the Kāneʻohe direction toward the second sign on the right-hand side of the road. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s likely the route that most hikers are interested in for the shorter Crouching Lion Trail\, as opposed to the much longer and more involved hike up Puʻu Manamana. \n\n\n\nKnow that if the east side of Oʻahu has been receiving a lot of rain\, these lower elevations on the Crouching Lion Trail can be very muddy and slippery. \n\nNot long after beginning the hike\, the Crouching Lion Trail begins climbing\, which will continue for nearly the entire length of the trail to the main viewpoint above Kahana Bay. \n\n\n\nCrouching Lion-Puʻu Manamana Connector Junction just past the clearing that hikers either have the option to go left toward the main Crouching Lion viewpoint or right to hike toward the Lion’s Head/ Puʻu Manamana Trail. \nWarning: There has been previously fatal falls because of the steep and dramatic cliffs on the longer Pu’u Manamana trail which we are NOT doing.  So proceed with caution. \nThe short but steep trail leads to one of the most beautiful panoramic east-facing viewpoints on the island\, making the Crouching Lion Trail one of the best effort-to-reward trails when hiked for sunrise! \n\n\n\n\nIn any case\, the turquoise-blue waters of Kahana Bay can truly be enjoyed at first light and throughout much of the day. Therefore\, I truly don’t think it makes much of a difference when you decide to hike up Crouching Lion\, as the viewpoints are always stunning\, so long as the weather is clear! \nOn a different note\, the Crouching Lion Trail is not as straightforward as one might think\, given all the different routes that begin at the trailhead and continue throughout the hike. \n  \n\nPlease bring sun protection like a hat/cap/sunscreen/etc\, at least 2 liters of water per person\, good footwear\, snacks\, & clothing for bad weather just in case. \nPlease carpool if possible (you can contact us in advance so we can coordinate).\nPLEASE COME ON TIME (COME EARLIER THAN 10 TO GET PARKING).\nDepending on the fitness level of attendees\, we may have two groups one fast paced & the other slower. \nMatt will be the lead (ie\, he will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). This is a very popular area for hiking and mountain biking\, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas… \nOne option is to park at [Hau’ula Beach Park\, Hauula\, HI 96717]. There is no real room to park at the entrance without trashing someone’s lawn. Plus it gives you a place to rinse off afterwards. Bring bug spray. It begins at Dillingham Airfield\, which is an excellent GPS destination to plug in (because I don’t think there’s any other way to get anywhere these days\, am I right?!). \n\nOnce you reach the airfield\, drive all the way past it. Don’t park in the parking lot you see right off the main road\, because you can’t access the trail from there. Once you pass the airfield\, there will be a driveway on your left that you can turn into. Take it. Drive all the way down and turn left again\, then there will be a parking lot on your left. Park it. Then get out of your car and bop it. Spin it. Flick it. Smash it. Just kidding. You should stretch and hydrate! \nAcross the street you’ll see a chain across a road\, that’s the first entrance. There is a wide path that you’ll follow until you reach the trailhead entrance. \n\n\n\nAfter you enter through the fence\, the switchback trail will lead you through storybook woods and rocky terrain\, with zero chance of getting lost as long as you stay on the path. All that stands between you and that picnic table lookout is your own sheer determination and willpower! \n\n\nDon’t forget to enjoy the views on the way to the top. Fo’ real. The views from Kealia Trail are the best on the way up actually. Once you get to the picnic table you can’t really see much because the views are blocked by the trees. \n\n\nOnce you’ve made it here\, no one would judge you if this is where you decided to stop and turn back around. DESCRIPTION:For the very first time in over two years\, we had to cancel our hike on August 25th due to high winds.  So we are going to make another attempt. \n“The Hanauma Bay Ridge trail is an easy\, but long uphill hike on a paved asphalt road to the Hanauma Bay rock. The trail begins just West of the parking lot for Hanuama Bay. Follow the walkway to the top of the ridge. You can continue down the dirt trail if you feel like being adventurous (There is a secret beach and even a hidden rock bridge). Once you climb down you are able to explore any of the areas around the rock. This is a great vantage point of Aina Haina\, Hawaii Kai and Hanauma bay. ” \nGood shoes is a must. SUMMARY:Kuliouou Ridge Trail
DESCRIPTION:WARNING: Unlike most of our hikes\, this is NOT a beginner hike & it lasts more than 4 hours. \n“Hikers of the Kuliʻouʻou Ridge Trail in Honolulu\, Oahu praise the incredible views. Recent reviews note the trail gets muddy and slippery towards the top\, and caution against fog at the summit. Conditions are best during warmer months when it’s dry\, with hikers recommending good tread shoes\, water\, and trekking poles. Typically in July\, the area can be windy\, requiring sturdy footwear\, and the views are panoramic.” \nstreet parking on Kalaau rd.  This trail begins where the Kuli’ou’ou trail state hiking sign is at the end of Kalaau Rd. Be sure to follow the dirt path not the paved road. The trail is filled with different surroundings and diverse plants. Keep an eye out for the pink ribbons\, they will guide you through if you find yourself confused or lost. Follow the dirt trail to the top of Koolau ridge for amazing views of South and East Shores of Oahu. \nBest to bring lunch or snacks as this will be a longer & more intermediate hike.   \nGood shoes is a must. SUMMARY:Lanikai Pillbox (Ka'iwa Ridge Trail) Hike
DESCRIPTION:“The Lanikai Pillbox hike is located in Kailua\, about 30 minutes northeast of Honolulu\, on the east side of the island. The hike takes you up the Ka’iwa Ridge (another name for the trail) and has expansive views of both Lanikai and Kailua beach below\, the Mokulua Islands\, and the whole east side of Oahu. \nAnd while the hike is amazing because of the views\, it’s also pretty cool because of what you hike to: a couple of colorful\, graffiti covered pillboxes. These two pillboxes were originally built in 1943 and used as observation stations for incoming enemy ships. \nIf you want to get technical\, these pillboxes aren’t technically pillboxes. In military terms\, pillboxes are created to be affixed with weapons. These observation points were not designed to have weapons and were only meant for observation. But we can confidently say they accomplish their goal even to this day!” \n\n\n“The trailhead is located on Kaelepulu Drive\, blocks from Lanikai Beach. You will walk up a path right next to a private driveway (there is a sign to tell you where to go) to start the trail.”  We will meet at the trailhead at 9AM.\n\nGood shoes is a must. DESCRIPTION:We delayed this from May 19th due to the weather.  It should be nice on Memorial Day.\n\nLulumahu falls is 2.5 miles in and out trail and is one of the beautiful waterfalls in oahu. This trail is very muddy. We will cross streams in few places. Although it is a short trail\, it is considered moderate / intermediate level. However i consider it a beginner trail. High Chances of getting wet.\n\nOne can get in the water\, swim\, play in the falls etc. Be prepared if you are choosing to do so.\n\nGood shoes is a must. Bring lots of water. Shouldn’t take more than 2 hrs to complete the hike. We will meet in the parking lot at 9 am\n\nParking – park in the area allocated at the corner of Pali hwy and nuuanu Pali drive. Parking is limited so try to carpool. DESCRIPTION:You may do a simple google search & find that the Moanalua Valley Hike Trail is HARD. \nHowever\, we are NOT doing that one\, NOR the one that goes up Haiku Stair(way to Heaven). \nWe are going to go on the flat short hike. \nGee says: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMoanalua valley hike – We will only go 2 miles in and return which sums up to 4 miles total in this flat trail.\nNo view but there are some hawaiian ruins and if lucky we will try to find the petroglyphs.\nThere might be water running in the streams – if so\,  we will be crossing at least 10 to 15 streams. There is an alternative dry path to go around the streams without getting the feet wet. DESCRIPTION:Come join SMASH for another amazing hike up to Kaena Point Hike with the awesome views.  \nLast time we tried on Jan 21st\, they closed the entire road & didn’t allow anyone in so we ended up going to Pink Pillbox.  It was awesome.  Then we ate at El Ranchero in Kapolei.  We had a great time but want to do Kaena Point again.  However\, we had to change the meeting location due to high waves closing the west side entrance.\n \nRSVP by filling out the contact form to receive Sasaki’s cell so you can text him with issues. \n\nKaena point hike – flat 5 miles in and out trail at the end of waianae. No shade on the entire trail so bring sun screen\, caps\, lots of water etc.  It is open coastline throughout and interested people can take a dip in the ocean in the end. If monk seals are present – rangers will not allow people in the water\n\nParking is very limited so car pooling is recommended. No designated parking spots here. Park wherever legally possible in the side of the road\n\nIt will take 3 to 4 hrs to complete the hike. After the hike we can stop by few restaurants in waianae for lunch\n\nNEW Meeting point SEE NEW LOCATION ON THE MOKULEIA SIDE;  Do NOT go to the WAIANAE side. DESCRIPTION:Our Hiking Guide Gee is taking us on another scenic adventure.\nOld Pali road to Pali lookout and Likeke falls hike \nParking – koolau golf course $10/vehicle (so perhaps passengers can chip in to pay for the driver of the carpool).\nYou can park outside the main gate in the street for free but parking is very limited so come early if you plan to park in the street. You will get ticket if you don’t park within the white marker lines in the street.\nCarpool as much as possible \nWe will meet at 8 am in koolau golf course parking lot and start the hike at 8.30 am to the likeke falls. \nWe’ll come back to the parking and take the 2nd trail to hike the old Pali road to the lookout. We will finish the hike in the koolau golf course parking lot. \n3.5 hours and total 5 miles approximately in and out of the trails. \nOptional – we can have lunch in windward city plaza after the hike \nBring lots of water and wear proper shoes. Bring snacks just in case if you get hungry in the middle of the hike. No shade in the 2nd long trail. Bring sunscreen\, cap and other necessary items \nWith the water constantly collecting in the high Ko’olau mountain range\, you find beautiful waterfalls scattered throughout\, including Likeke Falls.\nThere is patches of beautiful ginger along the trail.\nAlso enjoy a couple jungle windowed views of the Pali and Ko’olau Mountains above. We may be able to see a pronounced hole in the mountain-side rock at the top with daylight coming through it\, located off the Pali Puka Hiking Trail.\nExpect it to be muddy with lots of tree roots and rocks that cover the ground.\nLikeke Falls is a stunning\, two-tiered waterfall\, cascading ~20′\, that sits below the Pali Lookout \nAs always\, although we will always do our very best to make safety a priority\, you are solely responsible for your own safety & should not do anything you shouldn’t do\, esp if you have medical restrictions/conditions.

It is a steady incline with Manoa valley and mountain view. \nThe path winds through a shaded lush forest for most of the hike. Exotic flowers and large trees with huge leaves makes it a wonderful\, family-friendly hike that’s on the easy side. Lots of roots. At the top\, the valley view is beautiful. A easier hike with mountain and valley views at the top. \nGood shoes are required. Rain can make the trail very slippery. DESCRIPTION:FREE event.  Come join us for a beautiful hike/walk along the SouthEast shore of Oahu. \nWe will meet at the first lookout along Kalanianaole Highway in Hawaii Kai where you can park (it comes right after you pass the gun shooting range) & is called Lanai Lookout.  Please car pool as much as possible due to the tourist crowds & limited parking. \nPer our guide Gomathi/Gee: “We will be hiking the beautiful south west shore for 1 mile and will be walking in the street while coming back to the cars. We might be climbing lava rocks a little but really not that bad. It’s more like a walk than hike except for few places that require short climbs\nGood shoes are necessary. Flip flops or slippers might be dangerous. SUMMARY:Hike/Walk Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail
DESCRIPTION:Makapu’u lighthouse trail – very short and easy. Since whales are still lurking in the ocean\, this will be a good time to do whale watching during the hike. Well paved trail. It’s just like a short walk up the road to the lighthouse \nWe can also go the beach for sometime after this hike. Beach trail is also very short and flat all the way.
