SUMMARY:Sunday Swing Dance in Waikiki
DESCRIPTION:Whether you do West Coast Swing (WCS)\, East Coast Swing\, or Country Swing\, come join the Swing Dance Club of Hawaii on certain Sundays in Waikiki for their dance. \nThe Cost is free for students & approved volunteers; $5 for members (membership costs $20/year); & $10 for drop ins.  Preferably pay in advance on their website.  https://swingdanceclubhawaii.org \n5:00 PM – 8:15 PM\n\n\n The city opens its doors for us at 5:00 PM. Admission is $5 for members or $10 for non-members. \n\n5:15 PM – 6:15 PM: West Coast Swing lesson\n6:15 PM – 8:15 PM: open dancing to a mix of music.\n\n\n\n\n\nLessons from 5:15 – 6:15 PM\n\nStart with a lesson to get you started or help fine-tune your skills. We conduct two concurrent classes.  One class is geared for the first timers and those less experienced with West Coast Swing.  The second class is geared for more intermediate and above dancers with competency in the basic 6 count patterns as well as the 8 count whip.  Those without a partner are welcome. We regularly rotate students to new partners throughout the lesson to accommodate those without partners and to improve everyone’s ability to learn. Those partnerships unwilling to rotate are asked to keep outside the ring to help avoid confusion. \n\n\n\n\nOpen Dancing: 6:16 – 8:15\n\n\nImmediately following the lessons have fun with us on the dance floor with music to dance mostly West Coast Swing\, plus some East Coast Swing\, Hustle\, and Night Club 2 Step.  Please feel free to ask others to dance whatever your skill level. We hope you come away feeling the aloha and encouraged to share in the love we \n\n\nNo Food or Open Beverage Containers\n\nNO FOOD OR OPEN BEVERAGE CONTAINERS are allowed on the dance floor per the facility owners. Sealed water bottles are permitted. Any food or other beverages must be kept and consumed at the tiled entrance or outside the doors. A water fountain is available by the restrooms. Dance wax and powder are not allowed on the dance floor (it’s an amazing floor). Thank you for your compliance and for helping maintain our facility’s high quality. \nNO ALCOHOL is allowed at the facility as this is operated by the Honolulu Parks & Recreation department. If desired\, the L&L Barbeque on the first floor of the clubhouse offers alcohol\, but it may not leave the restaurant per their liquor license. \n\n\nShoes & Apparel\n\nThe dress standard is typically a fairly casual night out. Examples can be seen on this website and our Facebook Group page. Shorts are perfectly acceptable and more comfortable on warmer days\, though perhaps not the norm. Best not to come straight from the beach as this is a close-quarters (aromatic environment) body contact (think blouse or shirt) activity. \nSuede-soled (ballroom) shoes are best and preferred. Leather-soled or other smooth-bottomed shoes that can pivot can work well. It is best to avoid shoes that do not have a heel or ankle attachment\, such as sandals. Tennis shoes while non-ideal\, are perfectly acceptable especially when new and trying things out. Ballroom shoes can be purchased at various places online\, or the Arthur Murray dance studio at the Ala Moana Mall has a limited selection of women’s shoes available.

We use a combination of play materials which are both virtual & concrete such as Fantasy Grounds\, a large screen TV\, tablets\, miniatures\, battlemats\, maps\, props\, handouts\, etc. \nWe welcome you to add your flavor to our team. Or usual players do NOT RSVP or get tickets…these are just for guests/visitors/observers/potential new players. \nYou need no experience or materials. We have beginners as well as pros; women & men. You can either come by yourself or bring friends…some of the players carpool so that may be an option. \nThe room is well aerated & no one has ever caught CoVid from our sessions. \nThe GM (GameMaster) Terry Sasaki has extensive experience\, also being a filmmaker. Eventually we may even video our sessions for YouTube. Sasaki is a professional critic/GM who presented for Chaosium (Call of Cthulhu/RuneQuest)\, Pinnacle (Savage Worlds)\, R Talsorian (Cyberpunk Red; Witcher)\, & Free League (Lord of the Rings 5e) at the Kawaii Kon. \nYou get to come & watch for FREE. If you decide to join us afterwards\, each player pays $5/session for use of the facilities. If you can’t afford this\, we can make negotiated arrangements (eg\, you help GM & play NPCs). \nIf you are interested in playing a different type of game or can provide other resources\, we welcome your input. Come check us out for FREE. PARK AT ALA MOANA OR THE STREET! \nJust fill out our contact form with your email. Sasaki will then send you more info & provide you his number so that you can text him with any issues. \n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Crouching Lion Hike (reopened) / Birthday Potluck (optional)
DESCRIPTION:You can come to the hike\, the potluck or both.\nMODERATE LEVEL HIKE    \n\nDistance (Roundtrip): 0.6 miles / 1.0 km\n\n\nAt only 0.3 miles (0.5 km) each way\, the Crouching Lion Trail is\, without a doubt\, one of the best sunrise hikes on Oʻahu! \nCrouching Lion Trailhead Parking\nParking for the Crouching Lion Trailhead is located in a small dirt lot on the right-hand side of Kamehameha Highway\, just before Kahana Bay Beach Park when coming from Kāneʻohe\, or on the left after the beach park when coming from the North Shore. \nCrouching Lion Trailhead is a high-crime area for petty theft. Never leave visible bags or anything valuable in your car. \n\n\n\nHiking the Crouching Lion Trail\nTo get to the Crouching Lion Trailhead\, walk in the Kāneʻohe direction toward the second sign on the right-hand side of the road. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s likely the route that most hikers are interested in for the shorter Crouching Lion Trail\, as opposed to the much longer and more involved hike up Puʻu Manamana. \n\n\n\nKnow that if the east side of Oʻahu has been receiving a lot of rain\, these lower elevations on the Crouching Lion Trail can be very muddy and slippery. \n\nNot long after beginning the hike\, the Crouching Lion Trail begins climbing\, which will continue for nearly the entire length of the trail to the main viewpoint above Kahana Bay. \n\n\n\nCrouching Lion-Puʻu Manamana Connector Junction just past the clearing that hikers either have the option to go left toward the main Crouching Lion viewpoint or right to hike toward the Lion’s Head/ Puʻu Manamana Trail. \nWarning: There has been previously fatal falls because of the steep and dramatic cliffs on the longer Pu’u Manamana trail which we are NOT doing.  So proceed with caution. \nThe short but steep trail leads to one of the most beautiful panoramic east-facing viewpoints on the island\, making the Crouching Lion Trail one of the best effort-to-reward trails when hiked for sunrise! \n\n\n\n\nIn any case\, the turquoise-blue waters of Kahana Bay can truly be enjoyed at first light and throughout much of the day. Therefore\, I truly don’t think it makes much of a difference when you decide to hike up Crouching Lion\, as the viewpoints are always stunning\, so long as the weather is clear! \nOn a different note\, the Crouching Lion Trail is not as straightforward as one might think\, given all the different routes that begin at the trailhead and continue throughout the hike. \n  \n\nPlease bring sun protection like a hat/cap/sunscreen/etc\, at least 2 liters of water per person\, good footwear\, snacks\, & clothing for bad weather just in case. \nPlease carpool if possible (you can contact us in advance so we can coordinate).\nPLEASE COME ON TIME (COME EARLIER THAN 10 TO GET PARKING).\nDepending on the fitness level of attendees\, we may have two groups one fast paced & the other slower. \nMatt will be the lead (ie\, he will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). You should make sure that you are between us\, hopefully with eyes on one of us at all times for safety. \nLet’s have a safe but enjoyable Sunday together. \nIt’s Matt’s anniversary hike & potluck.  We will have a potluck afterwards (please bring actual food & not snacks).  It will be at Kualoa Regional Park (49-479 Kamehameha Hwy\, Kaneohe\, HI 96744).  Consider bringing a cooler or cooler bag to keep things fresh.\nIF THE WEATHER IS BAD\, ASSUME THAT WE HAVE CANCELED THE EVENT. We can always do this on another day…the risk is not worth it. \nAnd as always\, although we make safety a priority\, by coming you are accepting that you are solely responsible for your own safety & should not do anything you shouldn’t esp if you have medical restrictions.

SUMMARY:Karaoke Potluck Pool Party - Holiday Edition
DESCRIPTION:Join us for another Karaoke Potluck Pool Party. \n5 hours of karaoke & eating…&/or take a dip in the pool or jacuzzi/hot tub.  Singing &/or swimming is optional.  Some just come to mingle. \nBYOB (bring your own beverages).  Each person should bring $15/person  OR  each person can bring $5 AND a main dish/entree to share (which should be >$10 & >8 servings; NOT snacks). \nThe $5 is to defray/subsidize costs of the karaoke machine/mics\, the plates/utensils/sundries/etc\, deposit for the room\, YouTube Premium\, & to buy a small gift for the person who lets us use the place.  You can always give more.  And if you can’t afford it\, please contact Sasaki well in advance so we can arrange something (eg\, you could help setup & clean up). \nPark at Ala Moana or on the street.  Please fill out the contact form to stay informed w/updates & receive Sasaki’s cell number/email.  You MUST provide your email & cell to be allowed because this is a private bldg where we must have accountability.  If you invite guest(s) &/or children\, you are fully responsible for them & liable. \nThis is a private bldg where we are guests\, so you MUST be on your best behavior.  For eg\, you canNOT eat or drink at or near the pool/jacuzzi for sanitary reasons.  You can’t smoke or vape anywhere.  You must bring your pet’s certification as a service animal if you want to bring your pet.  We canNOT risk our access to this venue so will not hesitate to kick you out if you misbehave or become a problem. \nBy coming you are agreeing that you will fully abide by all building rules (& ask if you have even the slightest doubt)\, as well as that your image/likeness/name may be used for future promotional purposes (eg\, photo on our website).  Use all facilities AT YOUR OWN RISK. \nSome of our members sing in different languages.  : )   We have folks who are as young as kids to as old as seniors.  Our only goal is fun. \nSearch YouTube to prepare your list (eg\, if you want to sing the male/lower key version of Adele’s songs).  Consider bringing a swimsuit. \nWe have never canceled this event even during storms.  That is because the Karaoke & potluck are indoors\, and the jacuzzi/pool are heated. \nKeep looking out for our many events by going to Sasaki Meetup & Social Hawaii (SMASH).

SUMMARY:New Location for Hike: Kealia Trail (Kawaihapai - Dillingham) - Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, the other hike trail appears to be closed so we will be doing this alternative hike. \nThis is an intermediate hike but we will only be doing about half of it. \nClick on the venue description for detailed directions on where to park & where the trailhead is but it is summarized down below. \nPlease bring sun protection like a hat/cap/sunscreen/etc\, at least 2 liters of water per person\, good footwear\, snacks\, & clothing for bad weather just in case. \nWe will probably head over to some place to feed our hungry bellies after the hike. Brainstorm where at! : ) \nIF THE WEATHER IS BAD\, ASSUME THAT WE HAVE CANCELED THE EVENT. We can always do this on another day…the risk is not worth it. \nAnd as always\, although we make safety a priority\, by coming you are accepting that you are solely responsible for your own safety & should not do anything you shouldn’t esp if you have medical restrictions.  \n  \nKealia Trail: The Hike\nThe first step is getting there\, which can be a confusing process on its own. \nThe Trailhead for Kealia is at the furthest stretch of road on the westernmost part of the North Shore. It begins at Dillingham Airfield\, which is an excellent GPS destination to plug in (because I don’t think there’s any other way to get anywhere these days\, am I right?!). \n\nOnce you reach the airfield\, drive all the way past it. Don’t park in the parking lot you see right off the main road\, because you can’t access the trail from there. Once you pass the airfield\, there will be a driveway on your left that you can turn into. Take it. Drive all the way down and turn left again\, then there will be a parking lot on your left. Park it. Then get out of your car and bop it. Spin it. Flick it. Smash it. Just kidding. You should stretch and hydrate! \nAcross the street you’ll see a chain across a road\, that’s the first entrance. There is a wide path that you’ll follow until you reach the trailhead entrance. \n\n\n\nAfter you enter through the fence\, the switchback trail will lead you through storybook woods and rocky terrain\, with zero chance of getting lost as long as you stay on the path. All that stands between you and that picnic table lookout is your own sheer determination and willpower! \n\n\nDon’t forget to enjoy the views on the way to the top. Fo’ real. The views from Kealia Trail are the best on the way up actually. Once you get to the picnic table you can’t really see much because the views are blocked by the trees. \n\n\nOnce you’ve made it here\, no one would judge you if this is where you decided to stop and turn back around. It’s a three mile loop trail\, and although it’s a switchback it’s still strenuous. Option A: Complete. \nhttps://noahlangphotography.com/blog/kealia-trail-oahu-hawaii
