SUMMARY:Moanalua Valley Hike Trail (the easy flat one)
DESCRIPTION:You may do a simple google search & find that the Moanalua Valley Hike Trail is HARD. \nHowever\, we are NOT doing that one\, NOR the one that goes up Haiku Stair(way to Heaven). \nWe are going to go on the flat short hike. \nGee says: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMoanalua valley hike – We will only go 2 miles in and return which sums up to 4 miles total in this flat trail.\nNo view but there are some hawaiian ruins and if lucky we will try to find the petroglyphs.\nThere might be water running in the streams – if so\,  we will be crossing at least 10 to 15 streams. There is an alternative dry path to go around the streams without getting the feet wet. I will take the dry route if water is present.Meeting point – entrance of moanalua valley neighborhood park by the children play area.\nParking – this park doesn’t allow hikers to park inside. Park outside in the street. Carpool as much as possible\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). You should make sure that you are between us\, hopefully with eyes on one of us at all times for safety. \nLet’s have a safe but enjoyable day together. After the hike\, we will probably head over to some place to feed our hungry bellies. Brainstorm where at! : ) \nIF THE WEATHER IS BAD\, ASSUME THAT WE HAVE CANCELED THE EVENT. We can always do this on another day…the risk is not worth it. \nAnd as always\, although we make safety a priority\, by coming you are accepting that you are solely responsible for your own safety & should not do anything you shouldn’t esp if you have medical restrictions.

SUMMARY:Kaena Point Hike - New Meeting Location due to high waves
DESCRIPTION:Come join SMASH for another amazing hike up to Kaena Point Hike with the awesome views.  \nLast time we tried on Jan 21st\, they closed the entire road & didn’t allow anyone in so we ended up going to Pink Pillbox.  It was awesome.  Then we ate at El Ranchero in Kapolei.  We had a great time but want to do Kaena Point again.  However\, we had to change the meeting location due to high waves closing the west side entrance.\n \nRSVP by filling out the contact form to receive Sasaki’s cell so you can text him with issues. \n\nKaena point hike – flat 5 miles in and out trail at the end of waianae. No shade on the entire trail so bring sun screen\, caps\, lots of water etc.  It is open coastline throughout and interested people can take a dip in the ocean in the end. If monk seals are present – rangers will not allow people in the water\n\nParking is very limited so car pooling is recommended. No designated parking spots here. Park wherever legally possible in the side of the road\n\nIt will take 3 to 4 hrs to complete the hike. After the hike we can stop by few restaurants in waianae for lunch\n\nNEW Meeting point SEE NEW LOCATION ON THE MOKULEIA SIDE;  Do NOT go to the WAIANAE side. We will start the hike and finish by going back to the Mokuleia side.\n\n\nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). DESCRIPTION:Come join SMASH for another amazing hike through the largest wetlands in Hawaii.  \nRSVP by filling out the contact form to receive Sasaki’s cell so you can text him with issues. \nThis is a scenic 3 mile in and out nature trail and most of the trail is paved and flat. Shoes are recommended but not needed / necessary if you like to opt out. No shade in any portion of the trail. It will be hot so bring water\, sunscreen\, cap\, sunglasses etc. We can have lunch / brunch in restaurants in Kailua after hike.  \nWe will park in the public parking at this trail head (It is like a park there) and meet at 8.30 am in the parking lot.  \nhttps://dlnr.hawaii.gov/wildlife/sanctuaries/kawainui/ \nThe above website even provides a virtual tour by Google Earth.  \nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). You should make sure that you are between us\, hopefully with eyes on one of us at all times for safety. \nLet’s have a safe but enjoyable day together. After the hike\, we will probably head over to some place to feed our hungry bellies. Brainstorm where at! : ) \nIF THE WEATHER IS BAD\, ASSUME THAT WE HAVE CANCELED THE EVENT. Pauoa flats has makiki valley view at the end.\nMostly it is flat trail with few inclined places in between.  Good shoes are always recommended as the trail can be muddy and slippery if it rains.  Sun & bug protection is recommended. \nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). You should make sure that you are between us\, hopefully with eyes on one of us at all times for safety. \nLet’s have a safe but enjoyable day together.   After the hike\, we will probably head over to some place to feed our hungry bellies. SUMMARY:Independence Day - FREE Rail Transit tour of Island & Potluck Pool BBQ
DESCRIPTION:We will be taking a FREE tour of the island using the new Rail System on Independence Day\, Tuesday July 4th which is a Federal Holiday. \nUnfortunately\, there will be NO fireworks but we can still have BBQ. \nAs long as you have a HOLO card\, you can ride for free (your card won’t be charged). \nThe rail starts at the Halawa Station near Aloha Stadium (https://honolulutransit.org/halawa/) & ends at the Kualakai Station in East Kapolei (https://honolulutransit.org/kualakai/) which is apparently a 21 minute ride. \nPLEASE COME BY 3:45 BECAUSE WE WILL LEAVE ON THE FIRST TRAIN AT 4 OR LATER. OTHERWISE WE WILL BE LATE TO THE BBQ. \nMeeting at the Halawai Station @4pm\, we will ride the train there & back & then\, if you want\, we can come to a pool/jacuzzi deck near Ala Moana Center with something to share & BBQ/grill as we enjoy watching the fireworks  (we figure that will start about 6:30pm w/fireworks at 8pm or so). BYOB (Bring your own beverages). \nTHE BBQ IS POTLUCK\, YOU MUST BRING FOOD (NOT CHIPS/SNACKS).  \nHonolulu offers free rides on the rail during June 30 launch \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us for another Karaoke Potluck Pool Party.  We will have prizes this time. \n5 hours of karaoke & eating…&/or take a dip in the pool or jacuzzi/hot tub. \nBYOB (bring your own beverages).  Each person should bring $5 AND a main dish/entree to share (which should be >$10 & >8 servings). DESCRIPTION:Join us for a casual hike on the Aiea Loop Trail. FREE \nhttps://www.alltrails.com/trail/hawaii/oahu/aiea-loop-trail \nThis is a 5 mile hike that is mostly flat with several areas to take water break rests. With scenic views such as of H3\, it will take at least 3 hours to complete the hike. \nPlease bring sun protection like a hat/cap/sunscreen/etc\, at least 2 liters of water per person\, good footwear\, snacks\, & clothing for bad weather just in case. \nPlease carpool if possible (you can contact us in advance so we can coordinate) as parking is in high demand so coming by 8:30 is almost required.\nWE WILL MEET AT THE TOP OF THE TRAIL.\nDepending on the fitness level of attendees\, we may have two groups one fast paced & the other slower. \nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me).
