DESCRIPTION:Join us for another Karaoke Potluck Pool Party. \n5 hours of karaoke & eating…&/or take a dip in the pool or jacuzzi/hot tub.  Singing &/or swimming is optional.  Some just come to mingle. \nBYOB (bring your own beverages).  Each person should bring $5 AND a main dish/entree to share (which should be >$10 & >8 servings; NOT snacks). OR you can bring $15/person. \nThe $5 is to defray/subsidize costs of the karaoke machine/mics\, the plates/utensils/sundries/etc\, deposit for the room\, YouTube Premium\, & to buy a small gift for the person who lets us use the place.  You can always give more.  And if you can’t afford it\, please contact Sasaki well in advance so we can arrange something (eg\, you could help setup & clean up). \nPark at Ala Moana or on the street.  Please fill out the contact form to stay informed w/updates & receive Sasaki’s cell number/email.  You MUST provide your email & cell to be allowed because this is a private bldg where we must have accountability.  If you invite guest(s)\, you are fully responsible for them & liable. \nThis is a private bldg where we are guests\, so you MUST be on your best behavior.  For eg\, you canNOT eat or drink at or near the pool/jacuzzi for sanitary reasons.  You can’t smoke or vape anywhere.  We canNOT risk our access to this venue so will not hesitate to kick you out if you misbehave or become a problem. \nBy coming you are agreeing that you will fully abide by all building rules (& ask if you have even the slightest doubt)\, as well as that your image/likeness/name may be used for future promotional purposes (eg\, photo on our website). \nWe sing in various languages so feel free to show us what you got or just sit back & enjoy.  : )   We have folks who are as young as kids to as old as seniors.  Our only goal is fun. \nSearch YouTube to prepare your list (eg\, if you want to sing the male/lower key version of Adele’s songs).  Someone also suggested an open mic/talent show…so if you want to do spoken word\, or standup\, or play something\, we would welcome you. \nWe have never canceled this event even during storms.  That is because the Karaoke & potluck are indoors\, and the jacuzzi/pool are heated. \nKeep looking out for our many events by going to Sasaki Meetup & Social Hawaii (SMASH).

SUMMARY:Kuliouou Ridge Trail
DESCRIPTION:WARNING: Unlike most of our hikes\, this is NOT a beginner hike & it lasts more than 4 hours. \n“Hikers of the Kuliʻouʻou Ridge Trail in Honolulu\, Oahu praise the incredible views. Recent reviews note the trail gets muddy and slippery towards the top\, and caution against fog at the summit. Conditions are best during warmer months when it’s dry\, with hikers recommending good tread shoes\, water\, and trekking poles. Typically in July\, the area can be windy\, requiring sturdy footwear\, and the views are panoramic.” \nstreet parking on Kalaau rd.  This trail begins where the Kuli’ou’ou trail state hiking sign is at the end of Kalaau Rd. Be sure to follow the dirt path not the paved road. The trail is filled with different surroundings and diverse plants. Keep an eye out for the pink ribbons\, they will guide you through if you find yourself confused or lost. Follow the dirt trail to the top of Koolau ridge for amazing views of South and East Shores of Oahu. \nBest to bring lunch or snacks as this will be a longer & more intermediate hike.   \nGood shoes is a must. Bring lots of water.   Sun protection is always impt.\n\nParking is limited so try to carpool. Do not leave any valuables in the car.\n\nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). You should make sure that you are between us\, hopefully with eyes on one of us at all times for safety. \nLet’s have a safe but enjoyable day together. After the hike\, we will probably head over to some place to feed our hungry bellies. Brainstorm where at! : ) \nIF THE WEATHER IS BAD\, ASSUME THAT WE HAVE CANCELED THE EVENT. We can always do this on another day…the risk is not worth it. \nAnd as always\, although we make safety a priority\, by coming you are accepting that you are solely responsible for your own safety & should not do anything you shouldn’t esp if you have medical restrictions.

SUMMARY:Lanikai Pillbox (Ka'iwa Ridge Trail) Hike
DESCRIPTION:“The Lanikai Pillbox hike is located in Kailua\, about 30 minutes northeast of Honolulu\, on the east side of the island. The hike takes you up the Ka’iwa Ridge (another name for the trail) and has expansive views of both Lanikai and Kailua beach below\, the Mokulua Islands\, and the whole east side of Oahu. \nAnd while the hike is amazing because of the views\, it’s also pretty cool because of what you hike to: a couple of colorful\, graffiti covered pillboxes. These two pillboxes were originally built in 1943 and used as observation stations for incoming enemy ships. \nIf you want to get technical\, these pillboxes aren’t technically pillboxes. In military terms\, pillboxes are created to be affixed with weapons. These observation points were not designed to have weapons and were only meant for observation. But we can confidently say they accomplish their goal even to this day!” \n\n\n“The trailhead is located on Kaelepulu Drive\, blocks from Lanikai Beach. You will walk up a path right next to a private driveway (there is a sign to tell you where to go) to start the trail.”  We will meet at the trailhead at 9AM.\n\nGood shoes is a must. Bring lots of water.   Sunscreen is impt because there is little shade.\n\nParking is limited so try to carpool. SUMMARY:Memorial Day Lulumahu Falls Hike
DESCRIPTION:We delayed this from May 19th due to the weather.  It should be nice on Memorial Day.\n\nLulumahu falls is 2.5 miles in and out trail and is one of the beautiful waterfalls in oahu. This trail is very muddy. We will cross streams in few places. Although it is a short trail\, it is considered moderate / intermediate level. However i consider it a beginner trail. High Chances of getting wet.\n\nOne can get in the water\, swim\, play in the falls etc. Be prepared if you are choosing to do so.\n\nGood shoes is a must. Bring lots of water. Shouldn’t take more than 2 hrs to complete the hike. We will meet in the parking lot at 9 am\n\nParking – park in the area allocated at the corner of Pali hwy and nuuanu Pali drive. Parking is limited so try to carpool. That way\, everyone can dance to a different tune while enjoying the ambiance of the same party. \nThe $20 admission includes food which is great as can be seen on the menu.  CU there.

DESCRIPTION:Makapu’u lighthouse trail – very short and easy. Since whales are still lurking in the ocean\, this will be a good time to do whale watching during the hike. Well paved trail. It’s just like a short walk up the road to the lighthouse \nWe can also go the beach for sometime after this hike. Beach trail is also very short and flat all the way. We can stop by Koko Marina plaza for lunch before returning home   FREE event. \nMeeting point – 9 am at the trail entrance \nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). You should make sure that you are between us\, hopefully with eyes on one of us at all times for safety. \nLet’s have a safe but enjoyable day together. After the hike\, we will probably head over to some place to feed our hungry bellies. Brainstorm where at! : ) \nIF THE WEATHER IS BAD\, ASSUME THAT WE HAVE CANCELED THE EVENT. DESCRIPTION:You may do a simple google search & find that the Moanalua Valley Hike Trail is HARD. \nHowever\, we are NOT doing that one\, NOR the one that goes up Haiku Stair(way to Heaven). \nWe are going to go on the flat short hike. \nGee says: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMoanalua valley hike – We will only go 2 miles in and return which sums up to 4 miles total in this flat trail.\nNo view but there are some hawaiian ruins and if lucky we will try to find the petroglyphs.\nThere might be water running in the streams – if so\,  we will be crossing at least 10 to 15 streams. There is an alternative dry path to go around the streams without getting the feet wet. I will take the dry route if water is present.Meeting point – entrance of moanalua valley neighborhood park by the children play area.\nParking – this park doesn’t allow hikers to park inside. Park outside in the street. Carpool as much as possible\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). SUMMARY:Kaena Point Hike - New Meeting Location due to high waves
DESCRIPTION:Come join SMASH for another amazing hike up to Kaena Point Hike with the awesome views.  \nLast time we tried on Jan 21st\, they closed the entire road & didn’t allow anyone in so we ended up going to Pink Pillbox.  It was awesome.  Then we ate at El Ranchero in Kapolei.  We had a great time but want to do Kaena Point again.  However\, we had to change the meeting location due to high waves closing the west side entrance.\n \nRSVP by filling out the contact form to receive Sasaki’s cell so you can text him with issues. \n\nKaena point hike – flat 5 miles in and out trail at the end of waianae. No shade on the entire trail so bring sun screen\, caps\, lots of water etc.  It is open coastline throughout and interested people can take a dip in the ocean in the end. If monk seals are present – rangers will not allow people in the water\n\nParking is very limited so car pooling is recommended. No designated parking spots here. Park wherever legally possible in the side of the road\n\nIt will take 3 to 4 hrs to complete the hike. After the hike we can stop by few restaurants in waianae for lunch\n\nNEW Meeting point SEE NEW LOCATION ON THE MOKULEIA SIDE;  Do NOT go to the WAIANAE side. We will start the hike and finish by going back to the Mokuleia side.\n\n\nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me). DESCRIPTION:Come join SMASH for another amazing hike through the largest wetlands in Hawaii.  \nRSVP by filling out the contact form to receive Sasaki’s cell so you can text him with issues. \nThis is a scenic 3 mile in and out nature trail and most of the trail is paved and flat. Shoes are recommended but not needed / necessary if you like to opt out. No shade in any portion of the trail. It will be hot so bring water\, sunscreen\, cap\, sunglasses etc. We can have lunch / brunch in restaurants in Kailua after hike.  \nWe will park in the public parking at this trail head (It is like a park there) and meet at 8.30 am in the parking lot.  \nhttps://dlnr.hawaii.gov/wildlife/sanctuaries/kawainui/ \nThe above website even provides a virtual tour by Google Earth.  \nGee will be the lead (ie\, she will be in front of everyone) & I (Terry) will be the sweeper/follow (ie\, I will make sure that everyone is in front of me).
