Terry Sasaki became a Pittsburgh Steelers fan before he could speak English.  He was watching a rerun of the Pittsburgh Steelers & Dallas Cowboys Superbowl X and was amazed by a catch that Lynn Swan made.

Also watching the same game, his brother, Bruce, became a Dallas Cowboys fan because their offensive line would reset themselves before each snap which he thought was cool (we can’t write here what Terry thought of that move).  Since that time, both have been fans of their chosen teams.

According to conspiracy theorists, Dr. Sasaki’s Steelers loyalty contributed to his wrongful conviction because he was brought to Cleveland, Ohio, a state & city that he never had been to face a Cleveland Browns jury to be convicted of a crime he never committed.

Later, when he tried to appeal, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Cincinnati (Bengals), Ohio (another city he had never been to), would use underhanded tactics to dismiss & deny him justice.

Of all the cities and states that Dr. Sasaki could have been convicted & persecuted at, as a Steelers fan, he was excoriated in the two rival cities of the Pittsburgh Steelers, housing the Cleveland Browns & the Cincinnati Bengals.  While most believe his wrongful conviction was more an issue with race, there are still those, while in the minority, who believe that Terry’s black & gold fanship played a role in their jealous acts.

Sasaki’s never give up philosophy was partly derived from the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Hopefully he will be able to one day celebrate both his much delayed exoneration & another Steeler SuperBowl victory.
